COVID-19 CALL CENTER Lee County, the City of Giddings, and the City of Lexington, have opened a call center to provide a single source of information and resources during the Covid-19 crisis for Lee County citizens.

The call center opens at 8:00 a.m. on Friday April 3 and will be operated by county or city staff and officials.

Lee County residents can call the call center number at 866-686-7873  Calls will be answered between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.   Callers may leave a message and have a representative return their call if the call is not answered.

Callers with questions about the COVID-19 disaster declaration and executive orders should call this number instead of directly calling the City of Giddings, the City of Lexington, or Lee County.   Calls may be forwarded to other agencies or resources if necessary.

For emergencies you should still call 911

Public Announcement - At 4:56 p.m. on April 1, 2020, Lee County Judge Paul Fischer received notification from Dr. Laura Birnbaum, the Lee County Health Official, that Lee County has two (2) confirmed coronavirus case. Due to HIPAA regulations, the County can provide no additional information at this time. 

Judge Fischer again strongly encourages compliance with Governor Abbott's Emergency Order as to social distancing and essential activities outside the home to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Lee County will continue to update the public as information becomes available.

Public Announcement - At 5:15 p.m., County Judge Paul Fischer addressed rumors that Lee County is under a curfew. Lee County does not have a curfew. Governor Abbott's executive order did not impose a curfew. 

Public AnnouncementBecause Lee County has confirmed cases of COVID-19, Judge Paul Fischer at 7:00 p.m. on April 1, 2020 issued an Order relating to COVID -19.  The Order incorporates authority allowed by Governor Abbott Executive Order GA 14 and Public Health Disaster Declaration by Dr. John Hellerstedt dated March 19, 2020.  The Order specifically requires individuals known to have or are under monitoring  for COVID-19, to follow direction provided by duly authorized persons, including public health officials, and Lee County Health Official Requirements and Recommendations included in the Order.

Public Announcement– City of Giddings Emergency Management Coordinator Spencer Schneider confirmed to Judge Fischer that as of 5:00 p.m., on April 3, 2020, forty (40) test have been administered in Lee County for the detection of COVID-19 infection. At this time Lee County has two (2) confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Call Center Activity: The COVID-19 Call Center opened at 8:00am this morning. As of 5:00pm today, the center has received 19 calls. Non-English speakers may need a translator available. The Call Center is operational 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.  After Hours: Callers may leave a message and a representative will return the call.

 

County buildings are closed to the general public access until further notice due to COVID-19 concerns

Lee County Officials along with the County Health Official and Emergency Management Coordinator are working diligently to stay informed and make appropriate decisions to safeguard the public and employees during the COVID-19 Emergency Declaration.

Effective at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2020 all Lee County public buildings will be closed to the general public. Buildings will remain closed to the general public until further notice. Employees will remain working and conducting business. Members of the public should contact the county office they need by email or phone to conduct county business. Courthouse Offices: For your convenience the courthouse has posted contact information to all elected officials that have an office located in the courthouse.

Lee County Jail: All visitation to the county jail is suspended until further notice, with the exception of attorneys and law enforcement. 

County Court:  No county criminal court in April.

Jury Trials: No jury trials in any courts before May 8, 2020.

District Court:  Passport applications acceptance will be temporarily suspended. COURT PROCEEDINGS will be held according to the Order of the Court signed March 20, 2020 by the presiding judges of the 21st & 335th Judicial District Courts. JP Offices: As long as the Emergency Order are in effect. No criminal court in April.  Only the cases listed as "essential court proceedings" by the Texas Supreme Court will be addressed.  The time line for answering citations and lawsuits have been relaxed. No one will have a hold on their license for failing to contact the court by their due date. There will be no violation of promise to appear and no one will be forwarded to collections.

Tax Office (Giddings): There is a drop box labeled "Tax Office" and "Appraisal Office" that is available by the front entrance to the building. Please contact the Tax Office at 979-542-2640 or dmatthijetz@co.lee.tx.us if you have any questions.

Tax Office (Lexington): The drive thru on the North side of the building is available to the public. There is also a black drop box next to the entrance of the JP Office for payments.  Please contact the office at 979-773-2266 if you have any questions.
Please note that these closures WILL NOT AFFECT the due date of tax payments; installments or quarterly payments are still due and can be made by mail, phone, drop box, or online.
